Consulting

Making a choice about onsite generation is easier with the right information. If you'd like to know whether onsite generation is the right for you and how to best implement it, Marson Energy's consulting services can help. Marson Energy performs engineering and economic studies for any size project, providing you with the data needed to make a good investment decision.

Basic Onsite Generation Study

Marson energy's Basic Onsite Generation Study was developed to provide a simple evaluation of the feasibility of on-site power without the time and expense of a detailed energy study. With a basic onsite generation study, Marson Energy's engineers will visit your site, study your costs and your needs, and provide a preliminary set of figures for potential on-site power systems. A Basic Onsite Generation Study can be used as a screening step ahead of a more detailed study. The Basic Onsite Generation Study considers:

  • Current and future energy costs
  • Your electric load profile
  • Recovered heat utilization
  • Determination of local or state incentives for onsite generation
  • Evaluation of your gas and electric rates
  • Estimate of project payback
  • Evaluation of environmental and emissions concerns
  • Preliminary evaluation of noise issues
  • Evaluation of Installation issues

At the completion of the study, Marson Energy will provide you with a formal report using available data that will cover:

  • Your existing load and potential new loads
  • Current costs and potential new costs
  • Potential operational schemes
  • Any issues that would stand in the way of onsite generation
  • Feasibility of generating power onsite
  • Equipment recommendations based on your heat and electric needs
  • Estimate of costs to self-generate

Detailed Energy Studies

If a more detailed study is needed, Marson Energy will work with you to develop a scope which fully investigates the issues and provides good economic data which can be used to make financial decisions. Detailed studies may include steam and/or HVAC audits, preliminary system design, basic drawings, development of construction timelines, and estimates of permitting costs. Customized cogeneration studies proposals can be submitted for state funding under various programs including New York's NYSERDA.

Marson Energy will work with you to gather the best available data for a complete study. We'll take the following steps:

  • Collect at least 1 year of your energy bills
  • Assemble information on available fuels
  • Visit your site to inspect the layout, location of electrical and thermal loads and meet with onsite personnel
  • Complete surveys of thermal use on-site, to potentially include steam, hot or chilled water, HVAC, heated air
  • Review your utility rates and speak with your utility representatives
  • Perform other specified tasks needed to properly evaluate the economics of on-site power at your location
  • Conduct an economic analysis of on-site power options
  • Publish a detailed report based on the project scope

Marson Energy and its partners will, when appropriate, include key energy use areas in our detailed studies. By investigating and surveying energy use areas such as steam generation, condensate return, lighting, process heating, and air compression, Marson Energy can find other areas for energy efficiency improvement or load reduction. In some cases, investment to achieve these improvements can also be supported by state funding programs such as NYSERDA.

Additional Services may include:

  • Fuel analysis
  • Evaluation and negotiation of fuel and energy contracts
  • Emissions monitoring
  • Direct load measurement
  • Detailed evaluation of loads using utility's metered demand data
  • Steam trap surveys
  • Lighting surveys
  • Process improvements through supply of recovered heat
  • Air and water supply improvements
